FOOTBALL: Dunoon Technical crowned themselves with their second title when they defeated Norman Manley Comprehensive 4-2 on penalties yesterday to win the Walker Cup after both teams had battled to a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation and extra time at the National Stadium.

Exactly a week earlier, at the same venue, Dunoon had won the Manning Cup title by defeating Charlie Smith 2-0. The win yesterday also kept them on course for a schoolboy triple crown as they will meeting Clarendon College in the Olivier Shield.

In regulation, Dunoon took the lead in the 35th minute through prolific goalscorer Roen Nelson who scored his 30th goal of the season. Damion Williams gave Norman Manley some hope and their fans a rare occasion to cheer when he netted in the 88th minute.

On Dunoon's double achievement this season, coach Carlton Smith said: "It is a fantastic feeling. It is a feeling as a coach that I have never felt before. It has been two times that we have been to the Walker Cup final and never won.

"Today we showed grit, determination and a true sense of school pride. But Norman Manley played well. We have to look at the Olivier Shield now."

His counterpart, Alrick Clarke, said: "I must congratulate Dunoon as they were very competitive. I am not totally pleased with how the team performed but the guys tried to play football which was good."

Dunoon had the upper hand for most of the match, especially in the first half, when they controlled the ball much better than their opponents.

During that period, they had a few opportunities to score until they finally got it right when Nelson picked up a ball in the middle of the field, played it down the left flank to Seidro Sylviers, whose cross was poorly handled by Garfield Mattis in the area and Nelson got around him to shoot past goalkeeper Kevin Manning.

Dunoon's dominance was not as strong after the break but they still had a slight advantage until Williams struck two minutes from the end of regulation time when he powered home a freekick from the edge of the area after Andre Hickling was brought down.

In the penalty shootout Sheldon Wedderburn, Fabian Christian, substitute Ricardo Beckford and Kirk Ramsey scored for Dunoon while Nelson missed his shot. For Norman Manley Williams and Weston Forrest scored while Hickling and Latte-Shane DaCosta missed.
