Netball: Holmwood Technical will seek the rural double as their junior and senior teams take the court this morning in the Colgate-ISSA rural netball finals.

Set to start at 10:00 a.m. at the Couples Hotel netball court in St. Ann, Holmwood will first meet Herbert Morrison in the junior final then in the feature, the Holmwood team will take on defending champions Edwin Allen in the seniors.

In the first final, a new champion will be crowned as defending champions Edwin Allen were knocked out at the quarter-final stage. In Tuesday's semi-finals, Holmwood stopped St. Elizabeth Technical while Herbert Morrison got past Manchester High. Both teams should stage a battle royal.

In the feature game, Carlene Graham-coached Holmwood Technical will seek their first title. Buoyed by the school's excellent performance in cricket and track and field earlier this year, the Christiana school will be out to add another trophy for the school cupboard.

In her third season at Holmwood, Graham has done wonders with the team.

"The team has worked hard all season and I am very confident that the team will be victorious today," said Graham.

Graham also gave All-Island champion coach Lloyd Walker of Dunoon a lot of credit.

"The team camped for three weeks in the summer with the Dunoon team and they learnt a lot from them," she said.

Although Edwin Allen were not as impressive as their opponents in the regular season, the defending champions stopped the very strong Manchester High team 30-23 in their semi-final at Nain on Tuesday.

"It will be a very stiff match against Holmwood as they have the height advantage over our girls," said Minnette Reynolds, coach of Edwin Allen. "If our girls stick to the game plan and score some early goals I am confident we can get many from them," she said.

The likely starting teams will be:

Edwin Allen: GS: Francene Pomell, GA: Diana Dunkley, WA: Collette Brown, C: Hughonette Henry, WD: Michelle Ann Ottey, GD: Frances Pomell, GK: Latoya Brown.

Holmwood: GS: Natasha Copeland, GA: Nardia Hanson, C: Annmarie Meeks, WA: Juliet Morris, WD: Nicole Clarke, GD:Heidian Williams, GK: Elarine Butler.
