VETERAN OLYMPIAN Merlene Ottey arrived in the island late Monday night to compete at the three-day National Senior and Junior Athletics Championships which starts tomorrow at the National Stadium.

The evergreen 39-year-old Ottey who is hoping to participate in the Olympic Games next year has been in good form recently. On Sunday, she won the 100 metres event at the Nuremburg Track Festival clocking 11.05 seconds, to beat Nigeria's Joan Ekah (11.28) and Philomena Mensah of Canada (11.38).

Among those already here for the meet are Maurice Wignall, Donovan Powell and Sanjay Ayre who came in yesterday. Olympic double silver medallist Juliet Cuthbert, Merlene Frazer, Wayne White, Kemil Thompson and Charmaine Howell arrived in the island on Monday for the big meet.
