Catherine Hall, Mt. Salem clash

Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU- CATHERINE HALL and Mount Salem will meet in the first leg of the St. James FA Hart Shield Division One final at Jarrett Park this afternoon, starting at 6:00 p.m.

The final will follow a double header of the Sandals sponsored Division Two with Montego Bay Cricket Club and Broadway meeting in the opening game at 2:00 p.m. followed by Kajumulo and Norwood Strikers at 4:00 p.m.

Catherine Hall and Mount Salem earned their place in the final after hard fought wins over Juniors and Sting in the semi-finals. Catherine Hall advanced after a 4-3 aggregate win, taking the return leg 2-1 on a golden goal scored by Kevin Dehaney after drawing the first leg 2-2. Mount Salem got their berth after a 1-0 win in the second leg after the first game ended 0-0.

In addition to lifting their first title, either team will be seeking to earn the right to represent the parish in the Western Confederation play-off for a place in next season's National A-League.

Catherine Hall has been the most impressive team in the Division One competition this season and must start favourites against Mount Salem, who they beat one of the two meetings between the teams this season. Catherine Hall won 1-0 on February 26 while the second game on March 7 ended goalless.

Marlon Excell, who scored in Catherine Hall's 1-1 draw against Seba United in a Kajumulo Super League game on Wednesday, Michael Campbell and Dehaney will be the point men in Catherine Hall's attacks.

Mount Salem did well to get to the final without the best young striker in the league as former national Under 20 player Eshane Wilkins was out, nursing injuries.

They will need all the help they can get against a Catherine Hall defence that has been able to hold their own against most teams for the duration of the season. Nicholas Brown, who scored in the semi-finals, Oniel Guthrie and Adrian Bernard, will be expected to lead the Mount Salem attack if Wilkins is not fit to play.
