Over 400 for national awards
MORE than 400 members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), the Correctional Services Department and Fire Department have been conferred with national honours by the Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke in celebration of the 38th celebration in Independence in August.
Among the names on the list of persons from the JCF awarded the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service are Assistant Commissioner of Police Jevene Bent, Senior Superintendents Noel Gordon, Lindel Bell, Reggie Grant, Clarence Taylor, Inspector Errol Lindsay and Inspector Lincoln Cassell, who works at the Kingston Central CIB.
"In my 21 years of service I have only taken 12 days sick leave. I have never breached any form of discipline and I am a hard-working policeman," said Superintendent Kenneth Wade who is among those to be conferred with the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct.
Other prominent JCF personnel to be honoured are Detective Inspector Derrick "Cowboy" Knight of the Hunts Bay Police Station, Detective Sergeant Alden Davis, who was among the original lawmen who formed the Anti-Crime Investigation Detachment (ACID) in 1992 and Sergeant Patrick Murdock.
"I feel very good to know that the JCF has recognised my 22 years of contribution to the organisation," said Inspector Knight.
The Detective Divisional Inspector (DDI) for St. Ann, Wilford Gayle, along with Detective Sergeant Altimont "Paro" Campbell are part of a list of rank and file policemen to receive the First Bar to the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct.
Special Constable Patrick Hanson, who represented the JCF for many years in Senior Cup cricket, is among a list of 29 members of the force to receive the Medal of Honour for Efficient Service to the ISCF.
Among some of the senior officers from other departments to be conferred with medals are Captain Talbert Morrison, Lieutenant Commander Wayne Mykoo, Major Melvin Smith from the JDF for Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service.
Senior Probation Officer Thelma Fearon, Assistant Superintendent Lascelles Henry of the Correctional Services Department are to receive the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service.
From the Fire Department, Assistant Supts. Kenneth Afflick, Ralph Campbell, District Officers Randal Flash, Orville Hamilton, will also receive the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service.
