T&T's Gomez takes early lead
DEFENDING individual shooting champion Norris Gomez of Trinidad and Tobago, was the early leader after yesterday's opening round of the West Indies Tobago Company (WITCO)/Singer rifle shooting competition at Twickenham Park range.
Gomez, who won the individual title in Guyana last year, amassed 132 points with 13 V bolts to lead from Mahendra Persaud of Guyana (131 points with 11 V bolts) and Clarion Tang Choon of Trinidad (130 points with 12 V Bolts).
"I am in a very good position to win again," said Gomez.
"I was very happy with my first-day performance. It is a difficult range to shoot on and the competition was keen and I am hoping to do well today and tomorrow again to regain my title," he said.
The other shooters in action yesterday were: Lennox Braithwaite (Guyana) 129.10, John Fong Yew (Trinidad) 128.12, Carl A. Wong (Trinidad) 127.11, Leo Ramhalho (Guyana) 127.11, Ransford Goodluck (Guyana) 127.10, Ronald Brown Jr. (Jamaica) 127.6, the only female shooter Indrani Jutagir (Trinidad) 125.9, Carl Smith (Jamaica) 123.9, Claude Duguid (Guyana) 123.7, Stephen L. Chung (Trinidad) 122.9, Patrick Cabey (Jamaica) 123.8, Denis Lee (Jamaica) 122.3, Michael Perez (Trinidad) 121.4, Mohammed Haniff (Guyana) 120.9, Alvaro Goveia (Jamaica) 120.8, David Rickman (Jamaica) 120.7, Dr. Keith Hammond (Jamaica) 119.10, Kenneth Ng A Fook (Trinidad) 118.9, Jerome Lee (Trinidad) 118.6, Derick Naraine (Guyana) 116.8, Paul Slowe (Guyana) 116.7, C.C.
