A busy Lady Saw
Dwayne Fagan, Contributor
Very little is being heard these days about Lady Saw's career, so we sought an interview with her:
Q: You've been keeping a low profile recently, what have you been up to?
A: Lots of things, taking care of my kids and working in the studio. I would not really call it keeping a low profile, but my songs have not been getting any airplay in Jamaica. When I'm abroad and in places like Miami I hear my songs more frequently on the radio.
Q: What are the new projects you've been working on in the studio?
A: I recently did a song named 'Ain't No Sunshine' with Bounty Killer on my new rhythm. Many people were surprised because he was singing and deejaying on it. It's sure to be a hit. I'm also working on my new album and Eve is supposed to be on it. We'll be doing songs for each other's new albums. The new rhythm that I have will also have songs by Capleton and General Degree.
Q: What do you have planned for later this year?
A: On June 3 I'll be having my show in Trelawny which will feature Spragga Benz, Baby Sham, Lexus, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and I'll be performing also. Later in the month I'll be doing a promotional tour of Europe.
Q: Some persons say you are the best female DJ ever, how do you respond to that?
A: It's their opinion. I don't brag about myself. Sure I reopened the door for female DJs and many of them give credit for that. I'm just a good and strong woman.
Q: Do you have any words of advice for your young fans?
A: I love you all and, always keep loving Lady Saw. Listen to the good songs and not the bad ones and stay positive.
