ONE STOP, HERE
MRS. Tricia Dorman, is an engineer at JAMPRO, who assists new manufacturing businesses within her speciality and helps to 'diagnose' the state of health of the new ventures that pass through the 'business clinic' at 14 Camp Road, Kingston.
If you have only the vaguest idea of what you want to do, but a deep feeling that it can work, then do not worry.
"What we do at first is to just get into your mind, listen to the information that you have gathered already. We will also examine your financial/marketing plan (if you have one)," said Mrs. Dorman.
Before visiting with your manufactured product 'do your homework', she added.
"Everyone wants to export without even testing the product locally. JAMPRO assists in the area of testing, finding out how much the consumer will be willing to pay and helping to determine your target market (high end, low end)," she said.
"If you do not have a business plan, here is where you can develop one, also," she sadded.
Where money is concerned, the organisation provides references to funding agencies and consulting services, including the credit unions, COPE, NIBJ, NDB, JMA, SBA, JEA, MIDA, UTech (Entrepreneurial Centre) and the NDFJ, among others.
JAMPRO assists in the gathering of market intelligence, with research on current trends; identifying business opportunities, identifying new export markets; expanding existing markets and trade through the Internet.
There is also some assistance offered with product promotion in order to help exporters locate and penetrate overseas markets.
Technical support is forthcoming from the organisation, a benefit sourced from bilateral and multilateral agencies. A design and layout team is on location to give advice on product design, graphics and packaging design.
