Tivoli High honours stalwarts

TWO TIVOLI Gardens Comprehensive High School educators were honoured Saturday night for long and dedicated service at a tribute dinner held at the Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.

Florence Grace Hamilton, a former principal and Dr. Mabel Feltis, a former vice-principal, have both served the institution for a total of 50 years between them.

As Alexander Martin-Blanken provided lilting background music, guests enjoyed a sumptuous dinner. George Ramocan, chairman of the school's Board of Governors, officiated.

Guest speaker, Jeanette Grant-Woodham, traced the history of the school and lauded its transformation from "10 acres of a cemetery" into a formidable institution for the development of human resources.

Throughout the evening, tributes were delivered in dance, speech and song. One of the most stirring musical tributes was given by Coswell Duncan.

The school's multiple award-winning dance troupe performed two dances: 'Gracie' and 'Homage'. Lieutenant Stitchie, a past student of the school, also sang. In their reply, both Mrs. Hamilton and Dr. Feltis spoke about the uniqueness of the school's spirit. They said they felt a sense of belonging during their years of tenure there and even in their retirement, the bond was still unbroken.
