Computer classes for Hanover teachers
WESTERN BUREAU:
THE TRYALL Fund and University of Richmond, an American institution, are collaborating on a programme of specialist training for the teachers in Hanover who are now grappling with the concept of applying computers to classroom instruction.
In a three-day 'computer integration' workshop, which started yesterday, the teachers are to be instructed on how best to make use of the limited number of computers available to them to enhance student learning.
Sandy Bay Primary and Junior High will host the sessions which will be conducted by a team of eight specialists in Integration of Technology in Education who are allied with the School Technology Programmes, a division of Richmond University.
"The trainers are aware that many of our schools in Jamaica have only one or few computers, so they will share strategies to help teachers use these resources even with large classes of 40 students and more," says a release on the workshop.
The Tryall Fund, which is aligned with the world famous golfing resort at Sandy Bay, assists institutions and the needy in Hanover.
The teachers will get tips on how to apply the computer in teaching social studies, language arts, and other subject areas.
Additionally, the Jamaica Computers in Education Fund (JCEF) will be making a three-hour presentation today at the workshop, which is geared at about 50 teachers from schools across the parish, covering the categories of all-age, primary, junior high, and high schools.
