  • MUSIC MINISTRY

The gospel album entitled Celestial Praise by the Celestial Singers is doing well in stores. Producer Grub Cooper says the album has caught the attention of the public and the copies are moving fast. Pastor Edgar Eason and his wife Lorna say they are very happy that the album is doing well and it might actually help to realise their dream, which is to build a church and expand their ministry at Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town.

  • New Essence

    There is a rising sound
system making quite an impression on the local music scene. Essence Disco, established five years ago, has been getting increased engagements across the island. Selector Tariq Munroe told Showbiz that the sound's main emphasis is on versatility. "We have gained useful experience over the past few years playing alongside sounds like Stone Love, Copper Shot and Peter Phillips Disco. We believe in entertaining a wide cross-section of people and, as such, we have acquired a taste for a wide range of music." The members of Essence are other Stephen Davis, Richard Pusey, Marlon Brown, Robert Hinson and Chad Campbell.

  • Metromedia worries

It is still uncertain whether Metromedia sound system owner Jimmy Metro will regain sight in his left eye after a vicious attack on him during an oldies session at Rae Town two Sundays ago.

He's doing well, but he's not seeing out of the eye as yet...the doctors say that there is a bloodclot in it, and they don't know what will happen yet. Jimmy is very worried, but he's trying to keep in good spirits.

  • New dance

Fresh from 'profiling' in Hollywood, popular street dancer Bogle has invented a new dance for this year's Summer party scene called the 'Pop the Collar' which is all the rage in dancehall circles. .

"This dance is wickeder than the LOY, or the World Dance, a just 'pop the collar' ah do it, just pop the collar, and use all parts of your body to the music," Bogle said

The dance is a variation of the 'Tattie', but with an innovative twist, and the dancer has been aggressively promoting the new move at the Corporate Area hotspots.

  • Sean Paul flies high

Following a high-profile appearance during the Puerto Rican Day Float parade that was broadcast live on NBC last Sunday, deejay Sean Paul is set to blow out as the first featured dancehall act on HOT 97 Jams annual urban music showcase 'Summer Jam' this Thursday.

"Sean is going to open 'Summer Jam'. He will be the first advertised dancehall act on the show, Bounty has appeared on it before, but he was brought on by Wyclef, so this means that Sean is getting great visibility in the North American market," manager Jeremy Harding said.

Meanwhile, after only two weeks on the Billboard Hot Rap singles chart, the combination single, Hot Gal Today featuring Mr. Vegas and Sean Paul, vaulted to the number five spot on the chart.
