MORE THAN 100 fathers in eastern St. Thomas, who have made valuable contribution to the welfare of their families, were honoured by the Jamaican/British Youth Exchange Programme last week.
They were honoured for being role model fathers who can be emulated during a function held at the St. Thomas Technical High School.
St. Thomas Technical High School Principal Phillip Wilson, who was guest speaker, said that it was a blessing that there are men in the society who continued to serve their families with pride and dignity.
"The society will be God- blessed when you do what you are supposed to do, and you must also get involved in the spiritual life of your children, and know where they are at night," Mr. Wilson told the fathers.
Emphasising the significant contribution that a father can make in his child's life Mr. Wilson said the innocence of children are being shattered in the homes, leading to a decay in values in the society.
"As fathers we need to show love, be role models, nurture our children and give them love," he said.
Exchange Programme Co-ordinator, Marcia Christian, also had a special message for fathers.
"As fathers your presence must be felt in the homes. May God give you the strength and energy to fulfil your role in society to make it a better place," Miss Christian said.
Responding on behalf of the fathers, Councillor for the Dalvey Division, Beresford Steele, said the gesture was welcomed and would motivate and encourage a better relationship in the home. He challenged those in the attendance to positively influence others.
