JUNIOR REID says he plans to help the Ethiopian African International Congress rebuild its basic school at Nine Miles, Bull Bay, St. Andrew. How he plans to do this? With proceeds from the street launch of his Emmanuel Calling album at Skateland, Half-Way Tree, on Saturday, July 8. Reid's effort will be supported by a number of other leading artistes, including Bounty Killer, Junior Kelly, Charlie Chaplin, Leroy Sibbles, Merciless, Monster Shack Crew, Harry Toddler, Josey Wales, Sugar Minott, Zebra and his sons Wadadah and Andrew Blood. Also entertaining will be six major sounds - Renaissance, Rebel T, Caveman, Money Cologne, Alaska and Sound Wave. According to a spokesman for the community in Bull Bay, a basic school located there had been closed down some years ago forcing the 'Bobos' to send their children to other schools in the community. But, they would much prefer to have their own basic school which supports their religion. The 'Bobos' are also planning to reopen their workshop which teaches young people to make sandals, mats, brooms and buttons, the main products of the community. Reid said the show is also planned for the promotion of the album, which is being distributed internationally by his own JR Productions.

Solid Agency's Dimitry Mignon says that having conquered the beach scene, in terms of promotions, they will be moving into the Corporate Area nightclubs this summer. They will begin at Peppers with a new promotion called Loaded Tuesdays, which was launched on Tuesday, June 27. "It will be an ecletic blend of dancehall, hip-hop, R&B and anything else that is, or about to be hot," Mignon explained. He said the event will feature the world's hottest sound systems and selectors, including Funkmaster Flex, Bobby Konders, Jabba and Tony Matterhorn of New York and London's David Rodigan. By the way, are you concerned, like we are, about the number of songs being played non-stop on FM without any identification. Well, we understand that our concern is being dealt with.According to New York Newsdays' Peter Goodman, A California-based firm, Xenote and entertainment giant, Sony, have both come up with the most astounding new product thinkable - "a car key-size gadget" - which will allow listeners to identify the songs being played on radio. The products are Xenote's iTag - which is being tested now in San Francisco, Houston and St. Louis - and Sony's eMarker, to be launched in 10 major markets including New York at the end of July. Explaning how they work, Goodman says: "Let's say you're driving along in your automobile and you hear a real hot number that you have to have, but nobody bothers to say what it is. Just click the iTag or eMarker on your keychain while the song is playing; the device notes the time and the station. Later on you plug it into your computer and go online. Previously installed software uploads the information and brings back the name, the group, the album, even biographical details and where to buy the music." How is that for technology helping to make life so much more simple!
