Give the don his due

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I RECENTLY saw a news item on television in which a woman from an inner-city community along Red Hills Road stated that the community did not want either the Government or the police in their community, and that the don could "run tings".

I was shocked at first, but then I realised how the authorities could get rid of such community opposition. My suggestion involves only two things. First the Government would give them what they want: no interference from Government and its officers, in effect giving them their own state.

Secondly the Government should build a border around their community, revoke their Jamaican passports and require them to have permission to enter Jamaica. I would like to see how they would like that and if they would still think so highly of their don.

I am etc.,

RICARDO SMALLING
