442 entries for photography contest

APPROXIMATELY 422 entries were received in this year's Festival Photography Competition organised by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC).

Some 272 prints were submitted, and 152 slides.

The awards ceremony and official opening of the exhibition for winners in both the fine arts and photographic competitions has been set for 6:30 p.m. July 30 at the Mutual Life Gallery on Oxford Road.

This is the first time that these two competitions will share an opening ceremony, according to Pat Hyman, JCDC public relations officer.

Award-winning entries in drawing, ceramics, sculpture, fibre arts, photography and paintings will be exhibited.

Meanwhile, July 25 is the deadline date for the submission of entries in the 2000 literary arts competition. Entries are invited in the categories of plays, essays, novels, poetry and short story. The competition is open to juniors (ages 12 years and under); intermediates (13-17 years); and adults (age 18 and over).
