Gleaner Board honours Facey

Gleaner Board Member Hon. John Issa gets a hearty laugh from retiring member Hon. Maurice Facey (centre) as he presents him with a plaque of appreciation for 27 years of service to the Gleaner Board. The presentation was made yesterday at a luncheon to honour Mr Facey held at the Gleaner, 7 North Street. At left is Board chairman and managing director Hon. Oliver Clarke.

THE HON. Maurice Facey received high praise yesterday for his "powerful and continuous influence" on the Board of the Gleaner Company during a luncheon held in his honour at the North Street office in downtown Kingston.

After serving the Board for 27 years, Mr. Facey, 74, well-known businessman and philanthropist, is retiring next month.

In paying tribute to Mr. Facey, the Gleaner's chairman and managing director, Oliver Clarke, said he has been highly supportive of the company and had played an important role in helping the Gleaner develop over nearly three decades.

For his part, Mr Facey, who was flanked by his wife Valerie and Mr. Clarke, said he had gained significant experience while serving on the Gleaner Board.

He recalled when then chairman the Hon. Leslie Ashenheim issued the first invitation to join the Gleaner's Board of Directors.

The luncheon was attended by Board colleagues, spouses and Gleaner management staff.
