Women and violence
THE EDITOR, Madam: I AM writing with tears in my eyes after watching the Prime Time News on TVJ on Sunday July 16. In this newscast, it was reported that a policeman was gunned down. However, what was heart-rending about this particular news item was the sight of this policeman's son crying because he had lost his father. I must say, that I am absolutely fed up with the blatant disregard that some Jamaicans show for human life. How can these people think of killing someone, without even considering that the person is the son, father, or husband of another human being like himself? As a woman, I am appealing to all those female members of our society who are contributing to the taking over of our country by criminal elements. You see, whether or not you want to admit it, these criminals are your own sons, fathers, brothers, husbands and lovers. How can you lie in bed with a man knowing he has taken a life? Do you realise that you have been helping to increase the population of gunmen in our country? You may not be the one pulling the trigger, but you are a part of it as much as he is. I do not want to see another child crying on or off national television because he or she has lost his or her dad by the gunman's bullet. Let us stop this now. The children that you bring to this world will surely be cursed by the Almighty. The blood of those whom your sons, brothers, father, lovers and husbands have murdered will be upon you and your children. The harvest of the fruits of the seeds that you are now sowing will be a very bitter one. I am, etc., D.G. BERNARD Duhaney Park
