FOUR-time champions Shaw Park earned the right to meet Jamaica Grande in the best-of-three finals of the St. Ann/St. Mary John Issa SuperClubs Limited Overs Cricket Competition after beating Sans Souci by four wickets with three balls to spare in an exciting semi-final at Content Gardens yesterday.
Scores: Sans Souci 239 all out off 39 overs, Shaw Park 240-6 off 39.2 overs.
Opener Derrick Henry and veteran Jamaica batsman Delroy Morgan clobbered the Sans Souci bowling to all parts of the beautiful ground, sharing in an entertaining 115-run fifth wicket partnership which propelled Shaw Park to victory after they had gotten a scare with the loss of Croston Clarke (30), Tamar Lambert (six), Orlando Baker (21) and Norris Campbell (three).
Henry struck six fours in his knock of 63 and Morgan hit five fours and three sixes in his 76 before the latter fell to a catch on the long-on boundary with only 20 runs left for victory and five overs to be bowled.
Despite the loss of Henry eight runs shy of their target, Shaw Park got the desired result with Olanza Harris (10) and Courtney Laing (four) staying together.
Sans Souci, who lost the toss and were sent in to bat, got their foundation for the challenging score mainly through the efforts of Carl Wright (82) and Wayne Brown (68). Wright hit eight fours and one six, while Brown struck seven boundaries and two sixes.
Allrounder Ray Stewart slammed five massive sixes in a hurricane 43 to propel his team's scoring late in the innings. Morgan, Courtney Laing and Richard Francis snared two wickets each.
