A bus crew's unselfishness

THE EDITOR, Madam:

PLEASE ALLOW me space in your newspaper, to say thanks and to publicly express my family's gratitude for an act of kindness extended to our mother on July 20. On that date she was a passenger on an 'Executive Bus' which plies the Portmore to New Kingston route and during the journey she suffered a heart attack, which could have been fatal had it not been for the prompt and unselfish action of the bus crew.

She was first driven (in the bus) to Medical Associates Hospital on Half-Way Tree Road and there being no doctor on duty, they next drove her to Nuttall Hospital in Cross Roads to which she was admitted. This display of their care and concern for an unknown (and mature) commuter, we will never forget.

At this time in our country where there is so much evidence of apathy and hardness of heart we cannot allow this act of compassion and thoughtfulness to pass without public recognition and acknowledgement of the bus crew's unselfish and quick response to an emergency.

We give thanks to God that there are still those among us who choose to measure a successful day, not by how much fares they collected but by the life they tried to save.

I am etc.,

FIONA BARNES
