THE EDITOR, Madam:
I AM compelled to bring to public attention the inefficient operations of the National Water Commission (NWC). For nearly three months a broken water pipe in Braeton Phase 5 area of Portmore, St. Catherine has been flooding the road and damaging the surfaces. Several persons reported the matter to the NWC offices in Portmore and from time to time workers from the Commission visited the area, yet nothing has been done.
With several thousand gallons of precious water going to waste, we believe that the NWC is not really serious about water conservation.
The Commission is currently on an extensive media campaign appealing to consumers to conserve water. Several communities in Kingston and other areas are also currently under water restrictions.
As usual the NWC is giving the impression that if consumers co-operate then the water problem would be better managed. We know better. If a leak on a major public road in a residential area goes unnoticed for several weeks, what about leaks in less populated areas? This is an indictment on the management of the Portmore operations and indeed the managing director of the NWC. The NWC needs a management that is serious about water conservation and an efficiently run operation. We are calling on the NWC to do their job by stopping the leaks and repair the damaged road in Braeton Phase 5, St. Catherine.
I am etc.,
