THE 20 FINALISTS in the Miss Jamaica (World) 2000 beauty pageant are involved in a whirlwind of activities in the days leading up to the September 9 coronation.
In addition to attending grooming classes, conducted by image consultant, Bev Corke, they are also attending sessions in public speaking and diction, stage presentation, deportment and etiquette.
This weekend, the contestants will be hosted by the Renaissance Jamaica Grande Hotel in Ocho Rios. The facilities at the resort will form the backdrop for the annual Meet the Beauties television special to be aired on TVJ, prior to the grand coronation show.
Additional scenes for this television special will be shot at Dunn's River Falls, the spectacular Cranbrook Flower Farm, Hooves Tours horseback riding adventure and Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus.
The public will get the chance to see the contestants during a parade of the finalists on Saturday, August 26, at the Sovereign Centre in Liguanea.
On Monday, August 21, the public can log onto the Web site www.missjamaica.com.jm and speak with the contestants in the chatroom.
The whirlwind of activities intensifies on Friday, September 1, when the contestants depart on an island tour, which involves three shows in Mandeville, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
Their visit to Mandeville will be highlighted by a special appearance and fashion show at the Golf View Hotel in Mandeville. The finalists will then move on to the second city on September 2, where they will participate in a number of activities including a special appearance at Marguerita-ville entertainment hot spot.
The tour climaxes on September 3 in Ocho Rios.
