Surrey humble Lucas

Marlon Samuels...scored attractive 115

SURREY A joined Melbourne at the top of the Jamaica County Cricket Championship standings yesterday, following a massive innings and the 79 runs win over a depleted Lucas at Chedwin Park.

Both teams now have 12 points, after Surrey A took maximum six points from their encounter with Lucas but Melbourne could only manage first innings point over Middlesex.

Scores: Lucas 92 all out (Kevin Riley 23; Bevan Brown four for 25, Denville McKenzie three for 37) and 95 all out (Royan Smith 18, Gary Hurbine 16; Brown four for 21, McKenzie three for 34), Surrey A 266 for six declared (Wayne Cuff 87, Anthony Folkes 52, Tamar Lambert 33, Renford Pinnock Jnr. 33 not out and Bevan Brown 38 not out).

Surrey A declared at their overnight score after securing a lead of 174 runs and began the demolition job immediately.

With only the second ball of the innings opener Kevin Riley was well caught by wicketkeeper Keith Hibbert off the bowling of Denville McKenzie without scoring. Captain Andre Coley, Riley's replacement was well taken by Renford Pinnock Jnr at forward short leg off McKenzie's next delivery to send Lucas reeling at two wickets down without a run on the board.

Royan Smith (18), Chadwick Walton (20), Wayne Gayle (11), Marvin Young (13) and Gary Hurbine (16) got into double figures but were not allowed to progress against the heroics of pacer McKenzie and spinner Brown, who both bowled well in the first innings.

At Port Esquivel: An attractive 115 by Marlon Samuels, including three sixes and eight fours, guided Melbourne to first innings honours over Middlesex. Scores: Middlesex 223 all out (Howard Harris 76, Ricardo Powell 56; Marlon Samuels 3 for 40, Ray Stewart 4 for 59) and 156 for 4 (Leon Garrick 77 not out), Melbourne 359 for nine declared (Samuels 115, Robert Samuels 48; Krishmar Santokie 3 for 54).
