Jamaican author wins Writers Digest award


Dr. N. Persadsingh.

DR. N. Persadsingh has been awarded a Certificate of Merit for his book 'Acne in Black Women' by the "Writers Digest".

Writers Digest is the internationally respected publication which promotes excellence in writing.

Dr. Persadsingh defines black as any other skin type which is not white and includes the Indian, Spanish, Portugese and Oriental races along with all mixtures in between.

'Acne in Black Women', the only book of its kind was researched and written by the doctor to inform, define and provide relief to black women suffering with acne.

There are specific problems associated with acne in black women and the book addresses these complications which include the dark spots and, the permanent scaring that is prominent in black persons. Additionally the book suggests treatments, action for prevention, the cosmetics to be used and importantly, gives recognition to the reduced self image of black persons suffering from acne and offers encouraging suggestions.

A London trained dermatologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Persadsingh practices in Kingston, Jamaica. He is currently finishing his second book which addresses the hair of black women. A spokesperson for Dr. Persadsingh said he was very pleased with the award.
