PROMOTERS OF Sashi 2000, slated for the James Bond Beach, Oracabessa this weekend, hosted a 'Media Mingle' at Gordon's Restaurant, Devon House, Kingston Monday night.
Producer of the show, Ann Marie Adamson of the US-based Event Lab, welcomed everyone and introduced the members of upcoming group of DJs and singers L.O.Y. to the gathering.
"This is no press conference; it was a time to mingle," Miss Adamson said, while declaring that "Sashi changes everything."
In an interview with The Gleaner at the event, Miss Adamson said, this year's event would feature a number of give-aways, similar to last year. These will include stereos, CDs and T-shirts, to be supplied by sponsors.
There were some difficulties with the shipment of the goods last year, so Miss Adamson said, based on that experience, she had asked each sponsor to send their products directly to Jamaica.
When asked why the promoters of the show had decided on such an expensive way to treat the fans, Miss Adamson replied: "Sashi is a big event and the sponsors see the marketing value of distributing their goods there."
With a line-up of international artistes such as Brian McKnight, Snoop Doggy Dogg, L'il Kim and 'Next' and local performers including Mr. Lexx and TOK, she expects Sunday's show will be bigger than last year.
"We have added some elements to the programme that will appeal to every one," she told The Gleaner.
Most of the international performers will be staying mainly at the Renaissance Jamaica Grande, Ocho Rios, but a number of other hotels in Ocho Rios and Oraca-bessa have provided accommodation.
According to Miss Adamson, most of the performers will not be travelling with large entourages. "Brian McKinght is taking only 12 persons along," she continued.
Will the artists get to see the island's attractions?
"Maybe", Miss Adamson res-ponded. She said most of them had other commitments immediately following the show and would not be in the island for any extended period.
'Next' is also expected to be at the launch of Sashi's Ladies Denim Collection in Kingston on Friday, August 25. Angel, of L.O.Y., modelled one of the more revealing pieces from the Sashi line.
