THE EDITOR, Madam:
WE MUST all be very grateful to Anthony Johnson for bringing to our attention that book that was being used in our schools.
There are many reasons why that book should not have been allowed in our schools. The first reason is obvious, the action described as 'normal' intercourse in the book is, to my knowledge, illegal. It is amazing to me that a book that gives credence to an illegal act could be allowed in the classroom. Who monitors these things? This matter should not end without clear explanation as to how this could have happened. Someone should lose their job for this.
Another reason why the book should not be in our classroom is the fact it bears false information, that would result in the mis-education of our children. Sexual intercourse is not defined as an erect penis in an anus. Only those who carry out 'abnormal' acts and trying to find justification for their actions support that kind of argument.
First of all, sex cannot occur in the absence of sex organs. The definition of a sex organ must follow certain rules, and the most important rule in this regard is its reproductive feature. There can be no sex organ if that organ cannot play a part in the reproductive process.
The third reason why that book should not have been in our school is because it lied about the normality of homosexual acts. There is no evidence that such actions are normal in Jamaica. Normal in my view is something that is generally accepted and happens more often that not. Homosexuality is not generally accepted in Jamaica.
We as Jamaicans have led the world in many things. Bob Marley and the other members of the Wailers took reggae to all corners of the globe. Marcus Garvey was among the first truly international black civil rights leaders. We are not a country of followers, we are leaders and we should lead.
The growth of homosexuality across the world should not make us anymore willing to accept it. It goes against the laws of God and of nature, and that is what should matter to us.
Let us maintain the words of God, and keep Jamaica along the natural path of life. Let us not allow first world practices to overtake us, in our bid to be 'like them'.
I am etc.,
D. MARSTON
