Clarendon residents to clean community drain

Mike Henry

THE SEWELL Crescent Citizens' Association in Clarendon is to clean and repair about 688 metres of drains running through the community.

President of the association Dennis Wright gave an update of the project at the group's first anniversary dinner held recently at the Hotel Versalles in May Pen, Clarendon.

Explaining that funding had been obtained for the $1.8 million project, he said half of the money came from the citizens' association and the Canadian Inter-national Development Agency (CIDA), under its Enhancing Civil Society Project, supplied the remainder.

He said work on the project was expected to last about four months and would generate short term employment for young people in the community.

Mr. Wright said the project, upon completion, should eliminate flooding in the area.

Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon Mike Henry lauded the association for its exemplary work and congratulated the association's president on his proactive approach to community development.

"I am motivated to fully participate in the community's efforts and will provide funding to assist in the community's clean up activities," he pledged.
