'Girlz' thrash Grenada

JAMAICA fell one point short of netting a century on their way to a 99-14 humiliation of Grenada at the Caribbean Netball Championship in Grove Park, Nevis yesterday.

It was the Reggae Girlz' third straight victory following a 72-23 win over Nevis on Saturday in their opening game and a 74-17 thrashing of Dominica a day later.

Goal shooter Margaret Byfield scored 75 goals from 86 attempts to lead Jamaica's scoring. She was well supported by goal attack Sharon Wiles who scored 12 from 14.

Simone Forbes who replaced Wiles at the start of the third quarter scored 12 from 16.

The local girls led all the way, rushing to a 24-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, 50-8 at the halftime break before sitting pretty at the end of the third quarter with a 75-12 lead.

"They played really well today," said manager Cora Ricketts shortly after the big win.

"The attackers executed well ... they really did what was asked of them from coach Maureen Hall," she said.

Jamaica next play St. Lucia on Friday.
