The weekend the stars rode into town

Comedian Oliver Samuels (left) is greeted by Solomon McDaniel, head of Mack D's Auto Sales, as he arrived at the Trinity District in Porus, Manchester for a commemorative fun day to honour matriarch Kathleen McDaniel.

NORMALLY, THE community of Trinity, just outside of Porus, in Manchester, is sequestered and begging for action. But for the past eight years, there has been a special day in August, when that community gets transformed into a vibrant hot spot with high energy entertainment good for the whole family.

Last weekend, Lexxus, Kip Rich, Penny Irie, Chuck Fender and Pinchers rode into town.

The narrow farm road accommodated a sea of people who enjoyed the entertainment, food and drinks free of cost. Well, all of it cost the expatriate McDaniel family, headed by Solomon McDaniel of Mack D's Auto Sales.

Residents of the community had comments like, "grand market come early this year." And the event had all the makings of one.

Children were out in hundreds during the day and they were treated to delights such as cotton candies and sno-cones. In the evening, they were handed back-to-school items including uniforms for the boys, as well as books, pencils and sharpeners.

Magician, Rohan the Magnificent, brought a special smile to their little faces. He proved that the hands can be quicker than the eyes and totally mesmerised everyone, including adults.

Emcee Oliver Samuels was a hit with the crowd. His every movement seemed to attract attention.

In the night, there was a gridlock on the road for a short while, as vehicles piled up, patrons anxious to see the performances of the dancehall stars. They were not disappointed, although there could have been more order to the presentation.

The artistes all seemed to want to perform at the same time and this left some of them displeased. However, in the end, the crowd enjoyed every moment and the celebration ended on a high note.
