Minister Blythe says thanks

A youngster turns the lock-off ending the leak from the pipe yesterday in Riverton City.

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I would like to thank The Gleaner and its photographer, Mr. Norman Grindley for bringing to my attention the running pipe which has no lock-off and serves Riverton City (Gleaner August 30, 2000).

I am advised that over the years a number of lock-offs have been placed on that pipe only to be destroyed or stolen. Another lock-off was today (August 30, 2000) placed on that stand-pipe.

The residents who utilise this facility and wish to continue doing so, need to ensure that the lock-off is not tampered with, destroyed or stolen.

Should the water start running again due to there not being a functioning lock-off, we will have no option but to remove that facility.

At no time should we allow the precious commodity, water to go to waste and especially now that the island is going through a drought period. It is imperative that all of us play our part in conserving that precious gift from God.

Once again, I thank The Gleaner for bringing the situation to my attention.

I am, etc.,

Dr. E.C. KARL BLYTHE, M.P.

Minister of Water and Housing
