National under-17s to lead way for CC

WESTERN BUREAU-

NOT given to making idle boasts or rash predictions, the expectations of coach Jackie Walters for the Clarendon College daCosta Cup team this season could spell doom for most other teams.

Despite losing "more than half" of the starters from last year's team, including three of the national Under-17 squad that went to the World Champion-ships in New Zealand, Walters said he thought the chances of his team winning their seventh title since 1977 was "very realistic".

Among the players returning will be Sean Fraser and Dane Chambers who were in the team to New Zealand, forward Aaron Jackson while a 17-year-old sweeper will be making his debut.

Walters has picked traditional rivals Vere Technical and Edwin Allen as his main threats in Zone H but was critical of the zoning. Walters said that it was unfair for Vere to travel "into the hills of Clarendon four times" for the season while passing teams such as Glenmuir.
