Ramon Parish on fire at Caymanas Park

Orville Clarke, Freelance Writer

RED hot apprentice Raymond Rarish hightlighted yesterday's Caymanas Park 10-race programme with three winners, including the speedy 5-1 shot MISS GOTHAM CITY who made all convincingly in the straight five feature for the G.A. "Sarge" Bucknor Memorial Cup.

Parish, who just missed a triple on Wednesday, also won aboard 5-2 chance KAZETO for trainer Garrett Arscott in the second race and 8-5 favourite EVER HARD for Andrew Nunes in the sixth to push his season's tally to 47.

This puts him a clear third in the jockeys' championship, 29 behind the leader Andrew Ramgeet, who was absent from the saddle for the second consecutive race day owing to a new addition to his family, and Shane Ellis who rode one winner in 6-5 favourite SALSA to hold down second with 63 winners.

MISS GOTHAM CITY, who has looked a different animal under trainer Desmond Shand since she was claimed for $310,000 on July 15, raced to her second consecutive victory over the straight five course, putting away a good field of overnight allowance horses on this occasion.

She was smartly away from post position four and proceeded to lead in mid-track from PHYSICS BOOK and the well backed PALIMONY.

As they galloped on to the main track, however, MISS GOTHAM CITY disposed of PALIMONY to enter the last furlong about three lengths clear of the 6-5 favourite WYLE COYOTE, who was never far off the pace.

In the end she kept on strongly to win by 1 3/4 lengths from the fast-finishing top weight WYLE COYOTE, under leading jockey Winston Griffiths, and 2-1 second favourite EXECUTIVE PROFILE who also closed well on the stands' side to finish another head away in the 11-strong field.

Apprentice Andrew Wright, who rode the American filly EXECUTIVE PROFILE, said "she bled away her chances and would not go the early pace as a result. I think she would have won under normal circumstances".

Trainer Shand said since claiming MISS GOTHAM CITY from Errol Waugh in July, the filly had progressed along the right lines.

"After her previous win, we felt she was ready for overnight allowance providing the distance was right. And when she galloped an impressive 34.3 for three furlongs at exercise on Wednesday morning, I knew she would give 'em hell", he said.

Looking ahead, Shand said MISS GOTHAM CITY would run only in overnight allowance company. "She was acquired for breeding purposes and we dare not run her in claiming company again. At the end of the season a decision will be made as to whether she goes to stud".

Elsewhere on the card, leading trainer Philip Feanny saddled two winners in DR. R.S.F. and SALSA, his 62nd and 63rd of the season. The 11-time champion trainer is on course to break his 1991 record of 86 winners in a season.
