THE 20 FINALISTS in the Miss Jamaica (World) 2000 pageant were warmly received when they made a recent appearance at the Sovereign Centre in Kingston.
A fair-sized crowd gathered at the popular shopping mall with persons choosing vantage points in the spacious building from which to catch a glimpse of the beauties.
The contestants first appeared in daywear, courtesy of The Fashion House, Caution Boutique, Haute Couture de Dawn as well as the design team of Karl Williams and Mark Dermoth. They glided elegantly down the main staircase, pausing at each level before parading in the main courtyard. This was followed by an appearance in swimwear by Spunk.
Promoter of the pageant, Mickey Haughton-James, said the event was a tremendous success, having achieved the objectives.
"This parade of beauties at the Sovereign Centre was organised to give the public an opportunity to see the girls up close and speak with them," he said in a release.
Last weekend they were scheduled to make appearances in Mandeville, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios.
On Friday they were featured in a fashion show at the Golf View Hotel, Mandeville and on Saturday, the beauties were due to make appearances at Mar-gueritaville and other hot spots in Montego Bay.
Yesterday, the group was scheduled to participate in a fashion show at the Little Pub, in Ocho Rios.
They are expected to remain in Kingston this week in preparation for the coronation show at the Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Saturday.
