New political order needed

THE EDITOR, Madam:

CRIME IS a parasite. While we are talking and bickering, it is growing. To control and rid crime from our shores we have to understand how the parasite multiplies and how it is controlled.

We have cultivated a social order which has grown to be quite parasitic in nature. This criminal society is now growing to devour the nation. At first, it was bred by politicians and selfish-minded individuals to satisfy self-interest and unleashed in certain sections of the society. Once the parasite fully consumed these communities, to maintain its permanence it needed to find new hosts.

This resulted in the criminal element leaving the communities and going 'uptown'. Before we know it the parasite will devour the entire nation. We cannot amputate that part of society that continues to breed and foster the parasite (at least not fast enough) so we have sought to isolate them (imprisonment, curfews etc.,) but this did not succeed.

As a solution what we need to do is to break up its elements, slow its growth, then slowly reduce the necessary food for its growth and eliminate the type of environment for its existence. Sometimes we have to destroy or isolate the host which is fully contaminated in order to save the population.

This requires a change in the political order (no more PNP, NDM or JLP), the development of new and meaningful community spirit and programmes involving families, having a direct plan for growth and development involving all people from all spheres of life.

We cannot save this generation but we can save that which is to follow before they become fully infected.
