WESTERN BUREAU - MUNRO College continued their good run in the Pepsi Sports Plus daCosta Cup schoolboy football competition with a 12-0 thrashing of DeCarteret College in Malvern yesterday.
It was Munro's second straight win and they jumped to the top of the points standings in Zone E after their 3-0 win over defending champions and archrivals St. Elizabeth Technical on Saturday.
In Zone F, Bellefield were 4-0 winners over Manchester High at Kirkvine and Denbigh beat May Day 3-1 while Knox College edged newcomers Alston 2-1 in Zone G.
Meanwhile, Albert Town were a no show at the Mile Gully Community Centre for their game against Holmwood while the Gleaner has learned Aabuthnott Gallimore have withdrawn from the competition.
In one Zone C game, Petersfield beat Little London 1-0 at the Frome sports grounds.
Defending champions St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) will make a second attempt at securing their first win of the season when they take on Lacovia High in a Zone E game at the Lacovia Community Centre this afternoon, starting at 3:30.
Twenty-five games will be played over nine zones, all starting at 3:30 p.m.
The champions were on the receiving end of a 3-0 result against long-time rivals Munro College in the opening game at Jarrett Park on Saturday but should be able to pick up three points from Lacovia today.
Coach Wendell Downswell will be counting on David Thompson, Brian Beckford and Sebastian Campbell to get them back to their winning ways.
Competition will also start in Zone H with Clarendon College, Vere Technical and Edwin Allen all in action.
Clarendon will host Claude McKay, Vere will take on May Pen while Edwin Allen will welcome new boys Kellits High.
Ben Francis Knockout champions Glenmuir will also bow into action when they take on Old Harbour High at Woodside.
It will be a quick turn around for five of the seven teams in Zone J, as they will be playing their second game in three days. Leaders Dinthill, who beat Ewarton on Monday, will be at home to Bog Walk; Charlemont who were winners over McGrath will play away to Glengoffe who were losers against Tacius Golding.
