Donald Quarrie hunt another scalp

CONFIDENT Group F leaders, Donald Quarrie Comprehensive High will seek their fourth consecutive victory when they face Mona High on home soil in the feature encounter among eight Manning Cup matches scheduled for this afternoon.

After resounding victories over Denham Town (1-0), St. Jago (3-1) and St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) 2-0, Donald Quarrie sit comfortably atop their group with a maximum nine points over Denham Town Comprehensive with four points and St. Jago with three.

Though confident, coach of Donald Quarrie, Garfield Clarke said yesterday Mona, who have lost one game and drawn two, will put up a tough fight.

"We are really confident," said Clarke. "I think they (Mona) will put up a fight because they drew 1-1 with STATHS, whereas STATHS gave good competition against us, despite going to 0-2," he said.

"We are going there for a win, definitely. We will be fighting for the three points to keep us on top. Mona have a good team because I have been watching them keenly in their games. But they just don't finish."

In other Group F clashes today, Denham Town are expected to beat home team St. Jago and Pembrook Hall take on STATHS.

In Group B Dunoon Technical, the 1998 champions, started their season on a disappointing note by losing their first two games, but will be hoping to redeem themselves away at Vauxhall.

A tight battle is anticipated between the North Street crew St. George's College and St. Anne's at Seprod; Calabar High, who were held to a thrilling 1-1 draw against St. Anne's on Tuesday, are favoured to score an easy win over hosts Campion College.

Meanwhile, in Group D, St. Catherine are at home to Jonathan Grant and Norman Manley entertain Holy Trinity at home.

All games start at 3:30 p.m.
