FOLLOWING ITS decision to close the newly-acquired Boscobel Beach Hotel for a year, owners Guardian Life Limited recently met with workers to explain refurbishing plans that they claim would necessitate the closure of the resort.
Addressing the workers, President and CEO of Guardian Life Ltd. Earl Moore explained that a comprehensive evaluation of the property would be undertaken with a view to adding to the current room stock.
This, he explained, would necessitate the hotel's total closure since it would entail major construction and refurbishment.
He emphasised that the objective was to complete the refurbishing in the shortest possible time to re-establish the hotel as a revenue earned for the benefit of all.
Mr. Moore told workers that during the period of closure, a limited staff would be engaged to maintain the property.
He also added that the financial support for the Stewart Town Basic School, which for years had been receiving assistance from the Boscobel Beach Hotel, would continue.
The 400 workers employed to the resort received their final pay last Friday
