Waterhouse, Seba in 1-1 tie

WESTERN BUREAU:

FORMER two-time winners Seba United and Waterhouse played to a 1-1 draw on a wet Jarrett Park pitch yesterday in their National Premier League encounter.

The game never quite got up to the level expected between two teams coming off wins last week and after two goals in the first 17 minutes of play, the quality of the play was well below par.

The second half was even poorer than the first and saw both teams making lethargic runs at the other's goal area only to come away empty.

Andrew Holloway gave Waterhouse the lead after 12 minutes but Jermaine Anderson levelled the scores five minutes later from a terrific free kick from Iton Scott.

The Geoffrey Maxwell-coached Waterhouse had the better of play early, using short snappy passes on the left side of the field, avoiding the other side which had huge puddles of water.

The Kingston team just failed to take the lead after nine minutes when Scott headed off the line with goalkeeper Kenrick Picknight stranded in no man's land.

Picknight had failed to hold on to a dipping shot from outside the area, the ball bouncing of his chest only to be stolen by an alert Damion Powell.

The former national representative dribbled to the left, leaving Picknight stranded before squaring into the middle only to see Scott make a good save.

Waterhouse went ahead with some luck three minutes later when a shot from Holloway deflected off the legs of Seba's captain Christopher Harris and into the net.

The lead lasted all of five minutes as a direct free kick from Scott caught Reid by surprise, rebounded off his chest and into the path of Anderson who reacted the quickest, heading into the open goal.

It was the second week that a free kick from Scott resulted in a goal after he mesmerised Reno's goalkeeper Aaron Lawrence the first week of the season.

Seba looked the better team at the start of the second half and threatened to take the lead but never managed to get the ball over the line.

Wilfred Smith should have done better in the 61st minute when he faced Reid after a good build-up but his final shot was weak and was easily collected by the goalkeeper.
