Movements Dance Company's Season of Dance opens

Movements Dance Company of Jamaica will stage its Millennium Season of Dance between Wednesday, October 4 and Sunday, October 8, at the Little Theatre, Tom Redcam Drive, Kingston.

The 15-member dance company will premiere some new works by artistic directors Monica Campbell and Joseph Robinson and Esteban Delgado of Danza Contemporanea de Cuba.

This year's season will also see the remounting of two popular works in honour of the late Neville Black, tutor, dancer and choreographer, who died earlier this year. These include Ceremony, one of Black's most noted work and Take Two which was his last work showcased in 1996.

Monica Campbell's newest spiritual offering, Springtime Jubilee, a ballet which explores the themes of judgement, dispersion, synthesis and spiritual renewal will be mounted. It features the music of Monty Alexander, Bob Marley, Charlie Hunter Quartet and Jon Williams.

Joseph Robinson, will choreograph a piece called Oya - Goddess of the Wind. He will be assisted by Kirk Rowe, with music by Conroy Wilson.

Esteban Delgado will mount a new work La Vida (Life) - a dance which explores life's challenges and triumphs.

Two favourites from the company's repertoire will also be re-mounted: Flash Back (1993): AIDS Is Everybody's Business and As Thyself.
