TRANSPORT AND WORKS Minister Dr. Peter Phillips is expected to officially re-open a new-look Hope Road between the East Kings House Road, Lady Musgrave Road and Matilda's Corner intersections in St. Andrew on Sunday.
Karl Martin, project director for the Urban Traffic Management Programme in the Ministry of Transport and Works, said that "the project is substantially completed with only a few minor work activities, such as road markings, landscaping, and erection of street lighting still outstanding. However, from all indications, these activities are expected to be completed in time for the re-opening date."
The Hope Road widening and reconstruction project started in August last year.
Mr. Martin said that, Marley Road, Hillcrest, Richings, Donhead, and Hopefield avenues, along with Lady Musgrave Road between Hopefield Avenue and Hope Road, would be reverting the two-way traffic which existed prior to the start of construction.
Temporary traffic lights, which were installed at Hopefield/Seymour and Donhead avenues, as well as Lady Musgrave/Montrose Roads, and Seaview Avenue, will remain a permanent fixture. The traffic lights at Hopefield and Hillcrest avenues will be removed.
Regarding U-turns, Mr. Martin said that motorists would need to pay special attention to the intersections/junctions along Hope Road where U-turns will not be permitted. The Ministry has promised to construct the appropriate regulatory signs at intersections/junctions where no U-turns will be allowed.
No entrance to Sovereign Centre will be allowed to traffic from the northern carriageway of Hope Road. Entrance to the centre will be either from Liguanea Avenue or Barbican Road. Sandy Park Road, between Hope Road and Richings Crescent, will operate as a one-way to facilitate northbound traffic.
