AS THE parish of St. Mary looks to rebuild its image following recent low social and economic ratings, there is a plan to stage a St. Mary Homecoming Week from October 15 to 21.On National Heroes Day, October 16, the grand entertainment event will be 'St. Mary Bling Bling' set for the St. Mary Sports Club, Gray's Inn, Annotto Bay, St. Mary.
Part proceeds from the event will go towards a feeding programme for the Port Maria Infirmary, as well as towards providing clothing for the inmates.
Youth clubs in the parish are expected to compete in such activities as football, cricket, dominoes and netball. The Social Development Commission is undertaking this aspect of the day's activities, with support from the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Community Relations Division.
The entertainment package will feature Virgin Records' star Beenie Man whose album Art And Life is inching towards the 200,000 mark in sales in the United States. Hot DJ Mr. Lexx, who has been churning out hit singles in rapid succession over the past year, is also expected to be there.
They are to be supported by Captain Barky and Wickerman, Powerman, Tanto Metro and Devonte, Kirk Davis, Snagga Puss (Mr. Balance), Bling Dogg, Shad Du and the rest of the Shocking Vibes Crew.
Rising star Keri will also be on the billing. The event will feature GT Taylor as MC while the GT Aggregation is to provide recorded music, in addition to Ricky Trooper formerly of Kilamanjaro, now of the Sound Trooper Disco.
The artistes will be backed by the Ruff Kutt band.
