MANDEVILLE, Manchester:
A NEW library was unveiled at Northern Caribbean University recently, by United Kingdom-based attorney, Dr. Connie Carter, after whose brother the facility is named.
The Carter Library, named for Jamaican-born, Texas health care entrepreneur, Wentworth D. Carter, who died in a car accident in 1998, will form part of NCU's Economic Development Institute.
The Institute was established as a research body in 1999 and is geared to the study of economic development in the Caribbean, according to a release from NCU.
The library will also host the W.D. Carter lecture series on Caribbean Economic Development annually, during the month of September, and will be partly funded by the Carter family.
Custos of Manchester, Dr. Gilbert Allen, said the library is in keeping with NCU's sensitivity to the needs and enlightenment of the people of Jamaica. The Carter Library, said the Custos, is a significant contribution to the further enrichment of economic possibilities for the country.
