A motoring hazard

THE EDITOR, Madam:

THERE ARE some situations which have been repeated so many times over, that it leaves one to wonder whether we are a people that neither see nor hear.

Things which could be remedied with small sums of money if attended to promptly, are left unnoticed until the damage becomes extensive and expensive.

There is a stretch of roadway on the Christiana to Spalding main road just between the first entry to Spring Ground and the Richmond area which has become extremely dangerous. The embankment broke away some nine months ago. Some time about April this year, a few pieces of board were nailed together and used to fence the area. These were painted red to warn road users of the danger. At that time, I thought the authorities were about to commence work on the site but nothing has been done to date. This is not a job which the citizens could effect with a little cement and marl. It needs major expert repairs.

The pieces of board have begun to fall away as the road edges away from underneath. It is almost around a corner and the road surface is very uneven and dug up.

Motorists swerve from one side to the other when they get to the spot. Pedestrians are very scared of passing the spot. Very soon there is going to be a tragedy there, and it will be blamed on everything else, except tardiness and negligence of those who represent us.

I am imploring those concerned to go and look at that piece of road and do something promptly before it is too late. The entire area could collapse in a heavy shower of rain because the area is susceptible to landslides.

A stitch in time saves nine!

I am, etc.,

ROSE DEWAR
