Island Grill goes to cricket

LOCAL fast food company, Island Grill, is helping with Jamaica's preparation's for the 2000 Red Stripe Bowl cricket tournament.

Island Grill's sponsorship will take care of the national team's pre-match preparation costs which include meals and gears, normally incurred by the Jamaica Cricket Board.

The national squad will be provided with track suits and shirts which will bear the logo of Island Grill.

"We are delighted to be involved in a small way with Jamaica cricket, especially sponsoring the defending champions," said Dennis Hawkins, general manager of Island Grill.

"We feel that as a company that is 100 percent Jamaican that we should be involved with the national team. We would like to see the Jamaica cricket grow from strength to strength, especially in the schools," Hawkins said.

The Jamaica Cricket Board's liaison officer, Maurice Foster, welcomed Island Grill's decision to help finance the local cricketers.

"We are delighted with Island Grill's sponsorship. In this time of scarce financial resources, Island Grill's generosity is greatly appreciated as it will help us to adequately prepare the team to defend their title.

Defending champions Jamaica will open their campaign in the Red Stripe Bowl against the United States on Wednesday at the Kaiser Sports Club.
