Stella Maris' Season of Dance this weekend

STELLA MARIS (young adult) Dance Ensemble is to open its Season of Dance, under the theme 'Brown Sugar', featuring dances depicting African, Spanish, British, Chinese, Indian, and North American cultures at the Little Theatre, Tom Redcam Drive, Kingston on Friday, October 27. It will run until Sunday, October 29.

However, in a release, the troupe's artistic director, Monica Lawrence, said despite the Caribbean flavour, the presentation will not be a folk concert.

In fact, she said there will be all new dances in eight segments bearing the name of a popular dish from the Caribbean region.

Among these will be Fu Fu, a close-up view of the African impact, followed by 'Salade' to highlight the splendour and elegance of the French.

Lychee, the Chinese influence, will open the second half of the programme, to be followed by Dahl with its Indian flavour.

The last two segments will be Black-Eye-Peas, with its mix of African, North American and Caribbean culture and 'Pelau', the celebratory spirit of Carnival.
