WHAT MAKES SuperClubs' flagship, Grand Lido, Negril, such a super hit with romantics, who come either to get married there, or for their honeymoon?
The resort's weddings co-ordinator, Sophia Haughton, will tell you: "It's the deeply-romantic overall atmosphere of the resort - the trees, two miles of unspoiled beach, the gorgeous buffets, the tropical drinks."
Rhonda Ross Kendrick, diva Diana Ross' love child daughter for Motown Records, founder, Berry Gordy, perhaps would say: "Everything, my dear! From elegant, tastily-appointed rooms and suits, well-manicured lawns and stately gardens, and a fabulous spa and fitness centre, to A-I service from sunup to sundown, heavenly skies at night, old-time hammocks and the very floor you walk on!"
Rhonda Ross recently renewed her marriage vows to Rodney Kendrick, in the resort's picturesque 'Rock Block' sector, overlooking the idyllic Carib-bean Sea. They termed it "a glorious setting, fit for the gods!"
Gregston Coakley, former bandleader of the international rock group, Earth, Wind and Fire, and tour manager for young singing sensation, Asher. Or his elegant wife, Angelle Renee Ross, formerly of the famed Alvin Haley New York Dance Group.
They were the second jetsetters, shortly behind the Kendricks, to have visited the hotel in recent times.
Coakley echoed "thanks! thanks! thanks! thanks!" a dozen or more times over the telephone to SuperClubs' vice- president, marketing and environmental affairs, Zein Issa, when he was leaving. His wedding, he said, was "utterly splendid, in a setting of heavenly charm and breathtaking beauty!"
Weddings are free at Grand Lido Negril, if couples stay three nights or longer.
