WITH their focus geared on ending Violet Kickers' long reign in the National A League lead, Village United will be out to take maximum points off Galaxy United when they host the Clarendon team at Elleston Wakeland this afternoon at 3:00.
But Violet Kickers, who lost their unbeaten record in a 2-0 defeat to St. George's United last weekend will not give up their lead easily as they take aim at fourth-placed Duhaney Park in the curtain-raiser of a Jarrett Park double-header at 5:00.
Kickers lead the table with 12 points, two ahead of Village United who have a game in hand and neither teams will want to drop any points. Duhaney Park are on seven points in third place, followed by a four-way tie involving Galaxy, Brazil, Central Link and Rivoli on six points each.
A victory is not a certainty for Violet Kickers or Village United as they will be challenged by worthy opponents. In the case of Violet Kickers, they will be under pressure considering their unlikely defeat after an unbeaten run of four straight victories.
Coach Dr. Dean Weatherley said the defeat was a minor set back and said his team is ready to rebound.
Duhaney Park have done reasonably well this season and a record which boasts victory over Maverley/Hughenden (3-1) and Rivoli (2-1) are not to be taken lightly.
Village United, the only unbeaten team, should receive a strong test from Galaxy, who have also shown good form with a 2-0 win over Central Link and a 5-0 crushing of Mile Gully.
