IT confab to focus on wireless problems

Investigation of various real world wireless connectivity problems, such as wireless remote Internet connection, which are being solved using wireless protocols will be among matters that will be discussed at Jamaica's National Information Technology (IT) Conference, scheduled for November 2 - 5 at Renaissance Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios.

Wireless connectivity is important in providing "ubiquitous access" to network resources, which at present reside largely on wireline networks.

Since wireless networks are much more unstable and susceptible to latency and jitter, much research has been undertaken into the development of wireless protocols which attempt to provide connectivity which compares in reliability and security to nodes connected directly to the network using wire or optics, regardless of user location.

Nimal Amitirigala, a Web information systems consultant at Insyte Jamaica, will lead the discussion of this aspect of telecommuting technologies. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce & Technology has this year partnered the JCS to expand the reach of the Conference, in an effort, according to Minister of Industry, Commerce and Technology Phillip Paulwell, to enhance the Ministry's own drive to promote the use of technology throughout the economy with special emphasis on IT's application to business.
