Duhaney Park whip Brazil

Errol Murray (left) of Duhaney Park pushes the ball between the legs of Brazil's Derrick Smith during yesterday's National 'A' League game at Duhaney Park. Duhaney Park won 4-1.

DUHANEY Park thrashed Brazil 4-1 in a National A League match at Duhaney Park yesterday.

Brothers Jomo and Omar Gordon were the stars for Duhaney Park as they accounted for all four goals in a match which was delayed for 30 minutes because of the late arrival of the Brazil team. The victory pushed the Bradley Stewart-coached winners to 13 points.

Jomo completed a hat-trick after scoring in the 18th, 24th and 79th minutes while Omar netted in the 21st minute.

"We played an excellent first half," said Stewart.

"We relaxed a bit in the second half..the killer instinct was probably lacking as the younger players, probably wanting not to risk injury played a lot more cautious. The players have been doing what I have asked of them and that is to put early pressure on their opponents and get the goals and I very satisfied," added Stewart.

Kevin Hudson, assistant coach of Brazil said the absence of his two strikers, Peter Johnson and Derron Jackson, greatly affected his team.

"We played without two of our better players and that contributed to the loss. We played very badly in the first half, giving up possession of the ball too easily and Duhaney Park capitalised on that. In the second half, we improved our standard of play significantly and that half ended 1-1 but we were too far behind to catch up," he added.

Duhaney Park took the lead in the 18th minute courtesy of a lovely build up which included three players.

Lavanger Spence chased a loose ball near to the right corner flag, took possesssion and then played Horace Wilson at the top of the area for him to slip the ball Jomo Gordon, who fired past Brazil's goalkeeper Gregory Palmer.

Three minutes later his brother Omar, made it 2-0 when he received a Wilson pass all alone inside the box and easily beat Palmer.

Jomo netted his second in the 23rd minute as his solo run down the left side of the field took him past two defenders and saw him unleashing a powerful shot which flew past Palmer.

Brazil improved their standard of play in the second half, and looked competitive for the most part. However with only eleven minutes of regular time left, Duhaney Park added goal number four and Jomo completed his hat-trick after collecting a pass from Omar.

Despite being outplayed, Brazil still managed to pull a goal back in the last minute of play when Andre Barker's pass from the left found Mooshe Simpson who fired home from close range.

Meanwhile in a game between home team Maverley and Village United was abandoned following the stabbing of an unidentified spectator. Reports from the venue are that the spectator was near death when he was taken to hospital last night.

The incident caused chaotic scenes at the venue as a number of spectators invaded the playing area forcing referee Owen Powell to blow off the game in the 80th minute.

Village, courtesy of a 38th minute strike from Fabian Dawkins, were leading 1-0 when the game was abandoned.
