...Mother of two protests

A DISMISSED postal employee yesterday staged a quiet, one-woman demonstration outside the Central Sorting Office (CSO) in downtown Kingston, protesting against the circumstances under which she was terminated from the job.

Nickeisha Ingram, 21, a temporary worker at the Cross Roads Post Office for the past six months, said she was notified by her Post Master yesterday morning that her services would be terminated effective tomorrow.

The mother of two, who lives at Mountain View, Kingston, said she is upset at being terminated so abruptly and without explanation. "If I am leaving the job, I should tell them in writing two weeks before, and if I'm going to be terminated they should tell me two weeks before," she said.

Post Master at the Cross Roads Post Office, Mrs. Eulett Robinson, said she was asked by a senior postal official to notify Ms. Ingram and five other temporary workers at the branch of their termination yesterday morning.

"I explained to them why the information was sent to them by word-of-mouth. Letters are in the process, but they would not have been able to get the information in time for it (the termination) to take effect by Wednesday," Mrs. Robinson said.
