PUMPKIN ANYONE?: Pearlita Reid showing off a lovely pumpkin. - Carlington Wilmot

PEARLITA REID has been involved in market life for over 17 years, and despite her knack for convincing customers, she has found the job an uphill task.

"It is very hard with the selling for sometimes we buy the things and them don't sell we have to sell them back for the same price," said the shrewd businesswoman.

"Like all the pumpkin, we haffi cut it and spread it out that the people can see it and come buy...even when we do that them pass it sometimes to."

The witty woman who operates her fresh produce stall along the corner of Oxford Street in downtown Kingston, says she does not have much to show for the 17 years she has been selling ground provisions.

"The profit is very small but we still have to content 'cause we have to live. This a hand to mouth sump'n, nothing big we naw get," she said.

Reid who is from Norwood District in St. Ann, sells peppers, grapefruits, sweet yams, cho-cho, cucumbers and a healthy stock of pumpkins and corn.

She said her best selling days are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays as those days are wholesale days. She does business between Mondays and Thursdays.

Reid is married with four children
